Each property ran a taster day so that people who had never interacted with the Trust before could find out more.
The taster day was aimed at helping people to know the National Trust, the property, the project and the staff. They also had the opportunity to try hands-on activities which introduced them to the skills in the role profile.
The day also enabled us to talk to the candidates on a one-to-one basis about the barriers they felt they might encounter in the role. We discussed how we might help them to overcome those barriers and giving them confidence to apply.
The properties receive many applications for taster days, but generally only about 50% of people turned up. We often invited more people than we had planned to cater for to ensure everybody got the chance to come. The conversion rate from taster day to first interview was generally about 40% or 50%.
